Why we love Mar:
Mar is one of the most passionate people about rugby I’ve ever met. From coaching young girls at her school and in the community to inspiring young women to pursue rugby careers across the pond with Unilink Sports; she is always looking to grow the game at the grassroots level through her different roles as a coach, player, board member, recruiter and captain. Few have crossed her path and not ended up also playing rugby. She will explore every avenue to make sure there are no barriers for anyone who wants to participate no matter their age or experience. She wants the best for whoever she is with and won’t stop until that is achieved.
I actually discovered my university’s rugby team on Tinder—and that swipe right changed my life. Rugby helped me find myself, build my confidence, and grow into a leader. After graduating, I connected with Unilink Sports, who opened the door for me to continue my journey in England, playing rugby while earning my master’s degree. Because of rugby, I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world and form lifelong connections. There truly is no community quite like women’s rugby—supportive, empowering, and unlike anything else. I love my work as a PE teacher, especially getting to introduce younger generations to the sport that means so much to me. I only wish I had found it at their age! And through my work with Unilink Sports, I’m grateful to be able to help others access the same life-changing opportunities to travel and play. I can’t imagine my life without this sport, which is why I’m committed to sharing it with as many people as possible.
