Keynote Speakers

Lauren Doyle is from Boody, Illinois, She played rugby and ran track at Eastern Illinois University. In 2012, she made her World Series debut in Dubai. She has since been a member of USA Rugby National 7’s team for over 12 years. She was the co-captain of the 2024 Olympic team. Lauren recently retired and is living her best life in San Diego, CA.

Tamara Sheppard is the USAR Manager of High Performance Rugby. Prior to assuming the position at USAR, she was the High Performance Director with Swimming Australia. She was the architect of one of Swimming Australia’s most successful Olympic campaigns ever during the Tokyo games in 2021. ​
Tamara began her career in rugby with Queensland Rugby Union as a State Administration Manager, facilitating strategic planning and competition development across the region. She brings a range of experience with sports governing bodies developing cultures and effective operating models across men’s and women’s programs.

Naya Tapper is from Charlotte, North Carolina. She played rugby at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she majored in Exercise and Sports Science. Naya made her sevens series debut in Sao Paulo in 2016. She was selected for the 2020 Olympic team. She was the co-captain of the team in the Paris 2024 games, Naya participated in the 2018 and 2023 PanAmerican Games, leading them to their first gold medal and Rugby World Cup Sevens San Francisco 2018 and Cape Town 2022. Naya was the first American woman to score 100 career tries and is currently the ‘all-time try scorer’ for the USA women with 129 tries. Her chase down try-saving tackle against Ireland in Dubai Sevens 2021 was named the #1 play on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 Plays.
Naya made her USA XV’s debut in July 2016 against Canada, and went on to play 12 test matches, including the 2017 Rugby World Cup in Ireland. Naya recently retired but intends to continue to grow the sport around the world. Her namesake Naya Tapper Scholarship in partnership with OMBAC Rugby provides financial assistance to youth rugby players. She will also continue her outside ventures of public speaking, managing her mentorship program with MICR, and engaging with her community.

Alycia Washington began her rugby journey in 2008 at the University of Connecticut and ascended through the USA Rugby pathway, earning her place as a Junior All-American, Collegiate All-American, and ultimately a member of the USA Women’s National Team. She made her international debut in 2015 against England and represented the USA in the 2017 Rugby World Cup. Alycia recently announced her retirement from international test rugby, closing out her career with 26 caps over nearly a decade of international play. Her highlights include winning the WPL National Championship with New York Rugby Club in 2017 and making 47 appearances in England’s Premiership Women’s Rugby League. She also competed in three tours with Barbarians FC.
Alycia and fellow USA Eagle Kristine Sommer co-founded the XV Foundation in 2020 to provide consistent and sustainable support for the Women’s National Team. Outside of playing, she enjoys sharing her expertise as a broadcast commentator and has coached youth, high school, and college-level teams. She is also a 300-level certified referee. Now based in Bordeaux, France, she competes in the French Elite 1 Division with the Stade Bordelais Lionesses.

Mattison Grey is a leadership and performance specialist, business and leadership coach, speaker, and author. Since 1997, Mattison has been coaching teams and individuals and consulting in organizations in the areas of leadership, communication, team work, and high performance.

Sylvia Braaten
Former Associate Head Coach of Women's Rugby at Harvard University. Current Performance and Recovery Coach with USA Rugby, WNT 15s - implements strategies to maximize performance and recovery with special considerations around circadian health and the menstrual cycle. Recent graduate of Harvard Extension School with a graduate certificate in Organizational Behavior. Lead of Athletic Performance Coach with USA Rugby, WNT 15s (2020-2024). Played for the County Will Morrigians and then, Glendale Raptors. Served as the National Small College Rugby Commissioner for the Rocky Mountain League, Fundraising Chair, referee and coach. Equipped with a L300 Coaching and L100 Referee Certifications. They coached for Regis University girls and the men's Colorado Rush Rugby Football Club. In 2018 Meg began working with Girls Rugby Inc and has risen to the role of Colorado Program Manager for Girls Rugby.

Tiffany Faʻaeʻe
Tiffany was the first woman coach in U.S. men's professional rugby when she took the position as assistant coach with Rugby United New York, a Major League Rugby expansion team. A decorated international player, she was a member of the USWNT from 2015-2017. In 2017, she captained the Eagles in the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland, where the US finished fourth. A native of New Zealand, she played for the New Zealand Rugby League Selection Squad in 2014, and the Samoan Women’s Rugby League Team in 2011. In 2014 and 2017, she was the team captain of the WPL New York Rugby Club. In addition to serving as the Head Coach at Life West, she has been the Program Director at ROOTS Rugby, the Youth Program Director at the New York Rugby Club, and the Head Coach of men's and women’s rugby at Monroe College in New York. She is the coach of the PR7’s New York Locals and 7’s coach for the New York Athletic Club

Vicki has been part of the rugby community as player, coach, referee, referee coach, and educator since 1980. She brings expertise and facilitation as a Mental Performance and Resiliency Coach. She holds a MA in Sport and Performance Psychology and is the founder of Rock Steady Performance Consulting, LLC.

Liz Kirk
Head Coach, Seattle Women’s Rugby, Director of Women’s Rugby, Seattle Rugby Club since 2018. Select side coaching included roles as assistant coach for Pacific Coast Grizzlies (2002-2004), US Women's U23 Team (2000-2004), US Women’s Senior Side (2006, 2016-2017). Liz was a US Women’s National Team Player from 1996-2003 (1998 and 2002 World Cup, 23 Caps). She is Professor in the Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health program and Associate Dean for Education, School of Public Health at the University of Washington.

Has been a member of the US Women’s National 15’s team since 2021. She played professionally for the London Harlequins from 2022-2023. Jenny has a BA from Harvard University where she was a two-time NIRA All-American. She has played for the Beantown and the Glendale Merlins, where she won a WPL Championship in 2018. Jenny has an MBA from the University of Massachusetts.

Professional Development Coach & Consultant. Derika spent over 20 years building and developing high performance teams as a ‘people leader’ in business and as rugby coach. She’s trained as a certified coach to help teams and individuals navigate change and works with Coaches, Athletes and Business Professionals to focus on personal development to maximize potential. She played for 15 years and now coaches the University of California San Diego Women’s Rugby Team and the San Diego Women’s Club Rugby Team.

A global keynote speaker known throughout the world as the Queen of Prefab, Amy is the SVP of Innovation at Compass Datacenters She pioneers industrialized methods, digital innovation, and sustainable practices in design and construction. She played prop at the University of Florida, Northshore WRFC, and Morris Rugby. Her daughter Mackenzie has followed in her footsteps and is a prop for Morris HS Girls, EIRA, EGRL, PR 7s Rise, Atlantis, and attends USA Development Camp for U18. Amy is a USWRF board member and the Chair of Corporate Partnerships and mentors many in our community.

Kelly Romano
Kelly is a grateful coach and advocate for girls rugby. Kelly started her rugby adventures at Illinois State University. Kelly was given the opportunity to play while studying abroad in Perth, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand. She has spent the last 12 years building and growing girls rugby in her hometown of Carmel, Indiana. Kelly's program is the only option for girls in 2nd to 12th grade to play rugby in the state of Indiana. Kelly has coached at all levels from 2nd grade flag rugby to college. She is currently the head coach at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Laura Sayabouth
teaches 9-12 Health and Physical Education in Commerce City, CO. She has been involved with volleyball for 18 years and is the Head Volleyball Coach and New Teacher Mentor at her school. Laura has been involved with rugby for over 13 years - first with the Raleigh Venom and currently with the Colorado Gray Wolves. Laura is a USA Rugby Educator (strength & conditioning). She is also involved with Weredragons RFC, an international touring side that supports developing rugby in Laos and SE Asia.

Shane Young
Co-Founder and Executive Director, Memphis Inner City Rugby (MICR) - a high school rugby league made up of more than 300 players and alumni. In addition, MICR’s Pathways Program offers tutoring, transportation, jobs, and alumni services to its members. Since the program's inception, MICR has served around 3,000 athletes with over 100 going on to collegiate programs across the country. Shane/MICR have currently had the lease approved to build a field with facilities.
